Scenes from the Side of the Road 1 - Christ's Church and Wildlife

The other day, we wandered over the border into Maine and passed this lovely old church.

It quietly sits along side a dirt road.

The belfry on the weathered tin roof has protected the precious cast iron cargo for many years.

Imagine the tolls of the bell from days gone by, signaling a call for prayer.

'Christ's Church' - pretty much says it all.

A view through the window - hence, the glare. This tiny space holds just the necessities.....

....for a place to gather and give praise. Such a sweet reminder of a simpler time.

It seemed only fitting that during the same drive, we spotted one of God's creatures.

We never know where our travels will take us or what we will find but it is this that makes our drives so special.

  1. What a lovely little church. I may just have to drive by it myself and take some pictures. Do you think services are still held there or was it a museum of some sort?
Hubby, the kids, and I like to take "get lost" trips ourselves and have ended up on quite a few memorable adventures :)

    Off to mapquest the road!

  4. This is the very reason we like to travel highways on trips instead of Interstates. This is so cute. Visited NE this past spring and posted the trip. Beautiful place!

  5. What a beautiful little building! I would prefer something humble like this to a cathedral any day.

  7. Gosh --- if only we could replicate the subtle aging & distressing time has done on this church. It is so quaint ... I would have gotten out to peek into the window too :~) A lovely reminder to stop and enjoy things along the journey!

  9. My husband will go with me sometimes, but he's reluctant and likes to have a destination in mind, unfortunately. What an adorable little church! I'm surprised it's still in such good shape, and wonder about its history.

  10. What an adorable little church! I'm surprised it's in such good shape and wonder about its history. My husband will rarely go on meandering journeys like that. He's the type of person who likes to have a destination in mind so usually I end up going alone.
