Fall Mantel 2013

It's no secret that Fall is my favorite season and with each passing year, I think I enjoy it even more.
Mother Nature in all her splendid glory can't be improved upon, but I tried to show a bit of her natural beauty on our mantel this Fall.
I started with a nicely worn ladder section as my base point for the vignette above the fireplace.
I bought a few mottled gold pumpkins and thought I would repaint them in some neutral shades of grays and creams.....
....but the funny thing is they grew on me and I ended up keeping them as is.  Sometimes, change is good.
I added a couple of tarnished silver pieces to compliment the gold pumpkins.
Vintage books turned to show their perfectly aged pages and an antique box serve as a backdrop for the vignette over the dumbwaiter side of the mantel.
A vintage silver pitcher holds a gathering of wheat grass collected from around our yard.
The night air is getting cooler and we have started using our fireplace again. There is nothing quite like the warmth of a gently burning wood fire to take away the chill in the air.
