Welcome to Saturday Sparks 394!
Starting off today's party with some early morning guests - some, more welcome than others.
We have had turkeys here daily and as you may know, I look forward to their visits.
This morning, our feathered friends were happily enjoying the front field when suddenly a powerful shadow flew over them.
A flock of Canadian Geese honed in on the turkeys and decided they wanted in.
They circled a few times before finally landing.
All seemed well as they mingled and got to know each other, but 5 minutes later the love fest was over.
The geese let it be known that they were taking over and chased off the timid birds.
Shortly after driving off our friends, they set their sights on our newly seeded and hayed driveway edges.
They started digging up large sections to get at the fresh seed beneath, destroying all of darling hubby's hard work.
They had officially overstayed their welcome and had to go!
A quick waving of arms caused them to retreat into the field, only to double back again.
Another attempt at scaring them off, once again failed.
Third time's a charm, as darling hubby was able to get them to leave with the help of his trusty golf cart.
As much as I love our wildlife, on occasion we have to persuade some to move along.
Such is life in the country.

DeleteSuch a great photo of the turkeys! Sorry to hear the geese were bullies to them. They are quite the bossy things, aren’t they? Glad your husband was able to persuade them to leave.

Thanks Michelle! The geese do have a rough side to them. Sadly, it has most likely been caused by being ousted from everywhere they go. The good news is that somehow they still seem to manage and thrive. All my best, Suzanne.

ReplyDeleteWe have a flock of Canadian geese that lives at the pond by our church this time of year. We have to be careful not to step in their large droppings when we walk in the grass nearby!
ReplyDeleteYes, Kristie - so true! And if it rains, the presents they leave are a slippery nightmare! Thankfully, they haven't been too much of a problem for us, just now while the fresh seed is down. My best to you, Suzanne.

ReplyDeleteLove the Fall and all the inspiring features, Suzanne. I don't have great fondness for Canada geese at all. When we lived in our house on the river and kept our riverbank clean, it was like an open invitation every day, having to chase off the geese. Their excrement was a real biohazard in the city! We used holographic ribbon to try to keep them away, but they seem to overcome any and all interference with their bold presence.
ReplyDeleteYes, they are quite bold Rita and I can imagine that their waste would be a problem long term. We have been lucky so far in that they come by here every year, but only for a short time and move along. Hopefully, that continues to be the case. Your friend, Suzanne.

Darn geese! They wreak havoc here where they flew from all summer long. The tamer ones will chase you. Glad you were able to successfully shoo them away the third time. Have a lovely Sunday, Suzanne, and thanks for hosting!
