Welcome to Saturday Sparks 340!
Starting off todays party with this cute little guy.
I first spotted him walking across our backyard and it reminded me of a night not long ago.
It was a typical summer night; the air was warm, our windows were open. Suddenly, our peaceful evening was interrupted with the sounds of a commotion coming from the woods next to our front field. A distressed cry from something filled the air.
We grabbed our spot light and wandered over to investigate. We shined the light in the direction of the pitiful cries and saw a large porcupine clinging to the top branch of a small tree - much too small to support her weight. We could still hear something crashing through the woods and turned the light to see a coyote in pursuit of the quilled creature. Darling hubby let out a loud yell and the coyote came to an abrupt stop, turned and ran off in the opposite direction. This was a lucky break for the porcupine, as the tree branch broke right after and she fell to the ground. She sat for a moment, stunned from the fall and then slowly wandered off.
Perhaps this little guy is the offspring of the lucky one - I like to think so.

Suzanne, first of all , those clutches of yours are so professionally sewn, functional and beautiful! I wish you sold them. And I have never seen a porcupine, so was glad to get a glimpse by that photo. I would imagine a coyote would at least get poked a time or two had he been successful at his game (glad he wasn't). Last but not least, thank you to you and your readers for taking interest in my cozying up the condo. It is humbling to be among these featured bloggers, and I've acknowledged the feature on my post. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rita! It's always nice to hear someone likes something you've created. I assumed everyone has seen a porcupine, so you surprised me saying you haven't! I agree that it probably wouldn't have been good for the coyote or the porcupine to have an encounter. One or both of them would have been hurt or worse. You are doing a wonderful job with your condo - it's so warm and inviting. Enjoy!

ReplyDeletePorcupines are so fun to watch. Their walk is more of a waddle which just adds to their cute factor. We had one shuffling around our front field yesterday, seemingly without a care in the world. My favorite season is fall and your 'Autumn' pictures capture the season perfectly. Enjoy!
