Simple Fall Touches in the Living Room

As you may know, fall is my favorite season. The landscape - here in New Hampshire - explodes with color and we reap the benefits with spectacular views.

A favorite quote sums up my feelings perfectly:

"Autumn...the year's last, loveliest smile."
~ William Cullen Bryant

Whereas the colors of Autumn are abundant, I opted for a quieter rendition for our home decor.

In keeping with my 'less is more' mindset, a gathering of simple objects welcomes the new season.

Blades of wheat are tucked in a saved amber jar and framed owl photos capture the wilds of nature.

Before and After of Painted Wall Unit - Stained Wood to Gray Paint at Pieced Pastimes

For those of you that are interested, this is a before and after of our wall unit that I just painted. As with life, I hemmed and hawed as to taking on the challenge, but I finally gave in. I still like the old wood cabinetry, but I love the brighter painted version much more.

The mantel is once again a sparse gathering of collected objects to emulate the season at hand.

The owl theme continued onto the coffee table.

Another change in our living room is this new cross wall. I have been collecting them for a while and wanted to incorporate the crucifix from my grandmothers casket into the mix.

It turned out just as I hoped it would - a quiet homage to my faith.

Fall is more than a season to me. It's the last few days of open windows and the beginning of nights by the fire. It's snuggling with a favorite quilt. It's apple picking, pumpkin carving and fair days. It's reminiscing about days gone by and planning the days ahead. It's all of these things and so much more.

Saturday Sparks Link Party 342

Welcome to Saturday Sparks 342!

Starting off todays party with a recent change.

I have been debating about painting this wall unit for the longest time.

I finally got the courage and gave her a much needed makeover.

It started with a coat of white paint.

Much like my staircase, the white was too stark and wasn't the look I was going for.

A day later and another trip to the paint store, I found the answer - Valspar Sculpting Clay.

It was love at first sight - the ever elusive perfect greige!

The newly painted cabinets give the room a much lighter feel and just make me smile.

Don't you love when something just feels right?

"I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples."

~ Mother Teresa

Now, let's get this party started.
