A perfect fall day leads me to the porch with a nice cup of tea and a good book.
Lingering just a bit longer is a common theme on days such as this.
There's something to be said for the slower days of yesteryear.
Life seemed simpler and porch sitting was a regular occurrence for most everyone.
This leisurely activity seems to be making a comeback. McMansion lined subdivisions are being replaced with smaller, smarter homes and in that mix porches are once again taking center stage.
I have fond memories of my grandmother calling her city porch the 'piazza'. It was from there that she would take in all the happenings of the neighborhood and connect with her friends.
Our country porch is equally important to us, only in a much less social way.
It's the place we go to unwind after the pace of a hurried day.
It's where we spend much of our time witnessing the beauty of nature.
It's where the art of conversation is practiced regularly without the distraction of electronic devices. Unplugging is sometimes the best way to recharge.
In my mind, the world could use a few more porches.

ReplyDeleteThanks Amber! The porch is one of our favorite 'rooms' and gets plenty of use.
DeleteWhat a beautiful porch you have Suzanne and you've added just the right amount of fall touches. Love that tree stump table! Ahhh yes, to go back to porch-sitting days!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lori! There's always a fine line between too much and just enough. 😊 Darling hubby cut the cedar stumps for me and I am loving them too!
