Back in my pre-vegan days, white pizza was a favorite of mine.
I have been wanting to create something similar with a garlic infused white sauce and vegan cheese.
I made a few different versions, but this one is the winner by far.
Caramelized onions, sautéed garlic, mushrooms and a combination of fresh and dried basil take the flavors of the white sauce to a whole new level.
If you are craving something savory, give this recipe a try
It does not disappoint!
Now, onto the recipe:

Print Recipe
Makes One 12" Pizza
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1/2 tsp sea salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp dried basil
- 2 cups unsweetened almond milk
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 1/2 cups mushrooms, chopped
- Pizza Dough - I made half of Miyoko's no-knead pizza dough recipe
- 1 cup shredded vegan mozzarella
- 1/4 cup vegan parmesan
- fresh basil
- Place a pizza stone in oven and preheat to 500°. Sauté onions and garlic in non-stick pan (adding a tablespoon or two of water as needed to keep from sticking) until they are nicely browned and caramelized. Stir in mushrooms and cook until soft and set aside. Add olive oil to a medium pot and heat on medium. Add flour and whisk until smooth. Add in milk, salt, pepper and dried basil and continue to whisk until the sauce thickens. Stir in mushroom mixture. Shape or roll dough into a 12" circle and place on parchment paper. Pour white sauce on crust. Sprinkle mozzarella and parmesan on sauce. Place pizza peel under parchment paper and transfer pizza to the oven on the heated stone. Bake for approx 10 minutes or until crust is browned and cheese is melted. Add fresh basil to pizza, slice and serve.
