Saturday Sparks Link Party 374

Welcome to Saturday Sparks 374!

Starting off todays party with a short story and a lesson learned.

A pair of Canadian Geese have been our latest guests.

Over the past week, we have seen them in our pond and grazing in the fields.

Yesterday morning they surprised us as they proudly marched up the driveway with six new goslings in tow. The mother and father on either end of their new family, ever protectant of any dangers that may lurk nearby.

Flash to this morning, the tables had taken a dark turn. Two adults showed up, but they were alone  - not a baby in sight.

My first thoughts raced to the ever present coyotes and then to the pair of foxes that frequent this place.

My heart broke for this childless couple that seemed to be aimlessly wandering about and the horror that they most likely witnessed.  I quietly said a prayer for them.

As my morning routine began, darling hubby called out that the geese were out front along with their newborns!

Wait, WHAT?

I looked out and sure enough, there they were - all eight of them! I had given up hope and assumed the worst possible outcome only to be proven gloriously wrong.

They seemed to be in a hurry as they rushed into the nearby woods. Panning out into the field, I see these two 'impostors'. It must have been them that I saw earlier. Perhaps, they are nested here as well with another family on the way.

I have learned that keeping the faith is sometimes hard, but we must always keep the window of hope open.

"Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness."

~ Desmond Tutu

  7. Thank you for hosting. I see you are in NH - I'm in MA and it's snowing this morning!?!?! Unfortunately I planted my veggie garden so last night I was outside frantically covering the raised bed with tarps and buckets. Fingers crossed! #58 this week.

    1. Hi Jen - Always nice to welcome a fellow New Englander! Yes, we are in the midst of snow here as well. I can imagine the panic set in after all that work of starting the garden. Hoping that your plants survive! We are supposed to have a high of 52° tomorrow, so all this white stuff should be gone - knock on wood! 😊
