I had big plans of making a quilt for our king size bed, but finally settled into the fact that it wasn't going to happen anytime soon. I have too many other projects on the burner that need to be tended to and I just couldn't justify starting another. Coming to that realization was very freeing.
Now, I was on a mission to buy a readymade white quilt with simple lines. Our local stores had very limited selections (the new normal in the midst of Covid-19) so I needed to find something online.
I first ordered a microfiber quilt that was quite lovely, but the texture reminded me of flannel and I wasn't a fan, so back it went. Next up, I ordered a cotton quilt that seemed like it would work nicely. Sadly, it was very poor quality and it too was returned. At this point, I was feeling rather deflated and thought that I just may need to go back to my original plan and make the quilt myself.
Luckily for me, I stumbled upon a simple geometric quilt on Amazon one night, that was very similar to the design I had envisioned for a custom quilt. I had serious doubts about it's quality as it was a quarter of the price of the two I had returned. It did have a 4.5 star rating though, so I took a chance and ordered it.
To my surprise, it ended up being just what I wanted. The 100% cotton fabric is soft and drapes beautifully. It washes and dries easily and was the perfect weight.
The moral of this story is that you can't always go by the price. I have never been one to care about brand names, but I do like buying quality items that will stand the test of time. This isn't the handmade quilt that I intended, but it will do for now and as we all know 'done is better than perfect'.
It's such a beautiful and tranquil room. Your furniture is similar to what I have, which while older, looks fresh and 'current' with how you've dressed the bed. Combined with the overall color scheme and flooring in the bedroom it all looks great!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jean! Yes, our furniture is older, but still in perfect condition. I have days that I think I'd like to paint it or give it some sort of makeover, but I haven't got up the courage yet....one of these days! 😊 In the meantime, I'll just enjoy it for what it is and make the best of it! Take care, Suzanne.
DeleteThis is beautiful. It reminds me of vintage matelassé. And your lesson learned is well taken.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rita! The quilt drapes beautifully and I think that's what may give it a vintage feel. All my best, Suzanne.
