Scenes from the Side of the Road 5

While out and about doing daily errands, I was able to capture these moments in time with my phone. The picture quality isn't the best, but still well worth sharing.

On my way home from grocery shopping, I noticed this heart drawn in the sky.  I thought it was such a sweet and romantic gesture for someone to make. I smiled the rest of the drive home.

While getting gas at a little convenience store in town, I heard the sound of a chainsaw. I looked across the street to see this amazingly tall crane truck towering above the trees.

I watched for a moment and realized that there was a man with a chainsaw attached to the cable of the crane. By the time I took a picture, he was heading back down the tree. The speck of white you see is his helmet and the red is his chainsaw. I am guessing this guy has no problem with heights. I hope he is well paid for his work.

And lastly, this poor little guy was a regular visitor at a small plaza in town. He even got a writeup in the local paper because of his highly regarded status. I took this picture of him while stopping at the bank one day. He was injured at some point and started hopping on one foot.  Sadly, he hasn't been seen for the past year or so. I suspect his days on earth are over.

I hope that you are able to stop and take notice of the little moments that happen all around us.

Scenes from the Side of the Road 3

I am always excited to find the hidden treasures that surround us here in New Hampshire.

This little discovery pulled at my patriotic side. A once proudly displayed American flag painted onto a farmers gate.

A piece of American folk art that is slowly fading away.

On another day, we stumbled across this tin roofed cabin.

With a closer eye, I spotted this whimsical object on the roof that brought a smile to my face. The addition of the 'Pink Flying Pig' only confirms my suspicions that this old place has a story to tell.

Finding new discoveries in our travels is always fun, but the privilege of witnessing one of God's creatures always brings me the greatest joy.

This beauty visits our property quite often and is always welcome. I know that this is a busy time of year for everyone, but I hope you are able to stop and enjoy the view.

A Bird Intervention...

There's a little story to this sweet nesting bird.....
This excavator sat in our yard for some time waiting for parts to arrive to do some repair work. The parts finally arrived and my husband went out to start the repairs only to discover that a bird nesting with three eggs had taken up residency in the engine compartment. There was no way to work around the bird, so the nest had to be moved.
A neighbor tried moving the nest over to his yard with the hope that the mother bird would find it and continue incubating the eggs. This didn't fly with the mother bird, who spent the remainder of the day frantically squawking and diving around the original nesting area, making her unhappy presence known. The neighbor returned with the nest and my husband came up with Plan B. He placed a ladder against the side of his garage, close to where the excavator was parked.
With a gentle hand, he placed the nest on a board at the top of the ladder.
Thankfully, the loyal mother bird did return to the nest and continued on with her mission. Two of the eggs hatched and she carefully tended to her babies until they were able to fly off on their own adventures. I love a happy ending!
While we are on the subject of birds, I spotted this beauty while on a recent drive.
Life is all around us - we just need to open our eyes and take a moment to enjoy the view.

Chair Makeover

Our laptop is set up on a sofa table in the family room with a wooden bench for a seat. My kids have never liked the bench and tell me their bottom side hurts when they sit on it for any length of time.
Along comes this 'well loved' chair that I found at a local antique shop. The 'gilding' really wasn't working for me and the padded seat had been badly neglected, but I figured with a little TLC it could be 'loved' once more.

Here she is now after a fresh coat of paint and a newly upholstered seat. I knew from the moment I saw her that the printed linen from my throw pillow would be perfect for the seat.

I gave it a coat of 'Mopboard Black' followed by a coat of 'Anamite'. To give it some character, I added some 'gentle distressing' with some sandpaper - just enough to let the black show through. I finished it with a couple coats of 'Minwax Polycrylic Clear Satin'.

We saw this cute little guy the other day feasting on some ferns. We watched each other for 10 minutes before he went along his merry way. I have seen more deer this year than any other - not sure why, but it's always such a nice surprise.
