Welcome to Saturday Sparks 568!
Starting off today's party with some lovely blooms and a little back story to go with them!
Darling hubby (DH) has been finding a LOT of chewed off branches on the ground beneath one of our best trees. Like, a real LOT! Like, half of the trees branches gone in one night, LOT! The tree bandit is undoubtedly our resident porcupine and his new found hobby has officially worn out his welcome.
It was time for Plan A.
An apple filled, 'Have a Heart' trap was set out for several nights with the thought of moving him elsewhere. Much to our dismay, he eluded capture and seemed to vanish into thin air.
Fast forward to this week. As he does most nights, DH was sitting on the front porch, admiring the sunset and patiently waiting for our nightly deer visits when a dark object caught his eye. The prickly vandal came into view, wallowing its way up my beloved and fully blooming 'Black Locust' tree.
It was time for Plan B.
DH jumped into action with the help of his man lift and a long metal pole. Once in the bucket, he rose to the top of the tree, all the while banging the pole just above the little hellion and telling him in no uncertain terms to move along. The quilled hooligan worked his way back down the tree and onto the field. DH followed his lead, running behind him, all the while tapping at the ground and scolding him with words of his displeasure until finally, he disappeared into the woods.
And now, we wait.
It was a breezy day today and DH noticed a few chewed branches on the ground beneath my Black Locust. We aren't sure if they were hung up from a previous day and todays winds knocked them down or if they are newly gnawed boughs.
Time will tell if we need a Plan C.

Happy to host, Debbie! Have a great week ~ Suzanne.
DeleteSuzanne, I feel your pain! We are always battling wildlife. This week was the armadillos digging everywhere and it is not a pretty sight. My hubby has relocated lots of animals through the years. Thanks so much for the party and Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteYes Pam, the struggle is real! As much as I love to see them, I am not a fan of their vandalism sprees. Sorry to hear about your armadillos rampage. Relocating seems to be key in both our situations, but we have to catch the sneaky little guy first. 😄 Sending you much sunshine ~ Suzanne.
DeleteThank you for the feature of my recipe for Easy Saucepan Salted Pecan Squares, I appreciate it. Have a great week ahead!
ReplyDeleteHappy to feature you, Melynda! Your recipe sounds delicious. I may just have to give it a try and switch out a couple ingredients for a vegan option. Thanks for sharing ~ Suzanne.
Deleteoh wow! hope you catch the little bugger. It's wonderful to have wildlife around but not so much when they destroy beautiful things. Good luck and thanks for hosting. XO- MaryJo
ReplyDeleteThanks, MaryJo! My hope is that he found himself a more inviting place to call home. We will play the wait and see game for now. Have a great week ~ Suzanne.
DeleteA beautiful bloom. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Patrick! The 'Black Locust' is considered to be an invasive species, but I think it's beautiful. All my best ~ Suzanne.
