2021 Reflections

Another year has passed and with that, it is time to reflect on the time that was 2021 and some pondering for the upcoming year.

Much to my chagrin and everyone else, the pandemic continued throughout the year and looks to be with us for the foreseeable future.

With that in mind, if ever there was a time to rise to the challenge this is it!

Every person you meet is struggling with something, but it is also within everyones power to be kind.

Isolation has put many of our most vulnerable at risk, so this is the time to check on your neighbors.

Find it within yourself to be more patient. The old proverb, 'You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar' really does ring true.

And finally, take heed of your blessings.

For some perspective, I saved this message some time ago and refer to it often.

Beautiful New Hampshire Landscapes at Pieced Pastimes
A Few of the Beautiful Landscape Shares from here in New Hampshire

The message is quite powerful:

"If you have food in your fridge, clothes on your back, a roof over your head and a place to sleep you are richer than 75% of the world.

If you have money in the bank, your wallet and some spare change you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.

If you woke up this morning with more health than illness you are more blessed than the million people who will not survive this week.

If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the agony of imprisonment or torture, or the horrible pangs of starvation you are luckier than 500 million people alive and suffering.

If you can read this message you are more fortunate than 3 billion people in the world who cannot read it at all."

Moving into 2022, I will take my own advice by adopting more kindness, patience, compassion and gratitude within my life and I hope that you will join me.

  1. That message is so powerful! I agree, we who have clothes on our back, food in our fridge and a roof over our head are very fortunate. Those of us who have access to the Internet are even more well off. (I am pretty sure the message about reading it at all refers to people who cannot read, not just those without Internet access.) I am occasionally overcome with worry for my financial and health-related security, as I depend on benefits and am in long-term care, but then again I am unlikely to ever starve. Thank you so much for posting all this. Wishing you a blessed 2022.
